TSMC Commits Another $100 Billion to Arizona, Lifting Total Investment to $265 Billion

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company has announced an additional $100 billion investment in Arizona, a commitment that lifts its total planned spending in the state to roughly $265 billion and further concentrates the most advanced chip production in the United States around Phoenix.

The new funding will support four additional fabrication plants producing 2-nanometer and more advanced chips, alongside two advanced packaging facilities and a research-and-development center. In all, the buildout spans ten fabs and positions Arizona to house an estimated 30 percent of TSMC's 2-nanometer and leading-edge capacity once complete.

The expansion arrives as the company's Arizona operations continue to scale. TSMC's first Phoenix fab has been in volume production since late 2024 on its N4 process, while construction of the second fab is finished, with volume production expected in 2027. The company currently employs more than 3,500 people in the state, and the latest phase is expected to support thousands of additional high-tech jobs.

"TSMC's historic investment firmly establishes Arizona as the nation's epicenter for advanced semiconductor manufacturing," Governor Katie Hobbs said.

The announcement deepens a broader trend. Since 2020, Arizona has attracted more than 70 semiconductor expansions representing some $314 billion in total investment — the most of any state. "Arizona is America's Semiconductor HQ, home to the country's most advanced and fastest-growing semiconductor ecosystem," said Arizona Commerce Authority President and CEO Sandra Watson.

For the state economy, the commitment reinforces a supply chain that has drawn suppliers, construction, and skilled-labor demand into the Phoenix metro, and it strengthens the domestic footprint of an industry central to everything from artificial intelligence to defense.
